Job summary

Suncor Energy is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to support oil sands mining operations by operating ultra-class haul trucks in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.

Based in Fort McMurray, the role features a six days on/six days off rotation with 12-hour shifts and non-camp housing. You must have at least 2 years of equipment experience and a valid driver's license.

• At least 2 years of experience operating haul trucks and other heavy equipment in mining or related industries.
• High School Diploma, GED, CAEC, or 10+ years of work experience.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Complete safety checks, walk-arounds, and risk assessments.
• Operate haul trucks and other heavy equipment per standards.
• Report incidents and near misses promptly.
• Communicate updates to supervisors to meet production goals.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 2 years experience with operating equipment (haul trucks, wiggle wagon, dozers, graders, excavators) in industries such as mining, civil earthworks, pipelines, sawmills, pulp and paper mills or manufacturing, or highway construction.
• A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma (GED), or Canadian Adult Educational Credential (CAEC) or 10+ years of work experience.
• A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Be a positive contributor to building safety culture.
• Complete walk-arounds, safety checks and field level risk assessments.
• Follow our operating standards and procedures.
• Operate various makes and models of haul trucks.
• Report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately.
• Communicate updates to your supervisor to ensure that you meet all goals and objectives.

Location and other Key details

• You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray.
• The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts).
• This is not a camp-based role.
• This position is safety sensitive.
