Job summary

Suncor Energy Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to contribute to our oil sands mining operations by operating haul trucks and related heavy equipment at our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray. This role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and operational excellence, with a 12-hour shift schedule (six days on, six days off) and non-camp housing.

You will be responsible for safety checks, walk-arounds, and reporting incidents while maintaining production goals and a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience operating haul trucks and heavy equipment in industries such as mining, civil earthworks, pipelines, or construction.
• High School Diploma, GED, CAEC or 10+ years of work experience.
• A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Be a positive contributor to building safety culture.
• Complete walk-arounds, safety checks and field level risk assessments.
• Follow our operating standards and procedures.
• Operate various makes and models of haul trucks.
• Report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately.
• Communicate updates to your supervisor to ensure that you meet all goals and objectives.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 2 years experience with operating equipment (haul trucks, wiggle wagon, dozers, graders, excavators) in industries such as mining, civil earthworks, pipelines, sawmills, pulp and paper mills or manufacturing, or highway construction.
• A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma (GED), or Canadian Adult Educational Credential (CAEC) or 10+ years of work experience.
• A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record.

Location and other Key details

• You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray.
• The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts).
• This is not a camp-based role.
• This position is safety sensitive.
