Job summary

Suncor in Fort McMurray, Alberta is seeking a process operator to join Base Plant Upgrading assets, working 12-hour shifts on a 6 on/6 off rotation, collaborating with skilled operators to ensure safe, reliable operations.

You will follow the Conduct of Safe Operations (CoSO), perform daily area logs, coordinate with maintenance, and support plant upsets. This role requires minimum 3rd Class Power Engineering, heavy oil processing experience, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Experience in plant operations such as heavy oil processing, sour gas processing, water treatment/power plants or refinery operations.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make timely decisions under pressure.
• 3rd Class Power Engineering certification (or higher)
• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
• A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Follow all operating processes and procedures during operations to ensure the safety of our people, equipment, and the environment
• Prepare and complete daily area logs and communicate significant changes and findings
• Provide direction and supervision to the maintenance and contract personnel
• Ensure timely action and process adjustments during plant upsets that are consistent with operational objectives and target outputs
• Prepare equipment and systems for maintenance and commissioning

Location and other Key Details:

• You will work out of our Base Plant site in Fort McMurray, Alberta
• The shift schedule is a 6 days on / 6 days off rotation (3 days on, 3 nights on, 6 days off; 12-hour shifts)
• This position is safety sensitive
• You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use of ladders and working on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
• If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory; relocation support will be provided
