Job summary

Nu Edge Construction Ltd. in Camrose, Alberta is seeking an Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician/Mechanic to join our team. You will assist with diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy equipment and trucks, working alongside Journeyman Technicians in a busy setting.

The role offers hands-on training, opportunities for overtime, and a strong safety culture. You must be a registered 1st–4th year apprentice with a valid licence and a willingness to learn in a team

Qualifications

  • Registered 1st–4th Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice in Alberta.
  • Asset: experience with heavy equipment, trucks or related machinery.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Basic understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrains.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a team player.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers licence with acceptable abstract.
  • Physically capable of demanding shop and outdoor work.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy construction equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing.
  • Assist Journeyman Technicians with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain repairs.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and identify required repairs.
  • Complete oil changes, filter changes, lubrication, inspections, and general servicing.
  • Assist with repairs in both shop and field settings.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair documentation.
  • Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.
  • Identify potential equipment concerns before major failures.
  • Follow Nu Edge safety policies and safe work practices.
  • Collaborate with operators, supervisors, and parts personnel.
  • Perform additional duties to support maintenance.

The Opportunity

Nu Edge Construction Ltd. is currently seeking a motivated Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician/Mechanic to join our team in Camrose, Alberta.

This is an excellent opportunity for a registered apprentice looking to develop their skills while working alongside experienced Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technicians in a busy heavy civil construction environment.

The successful candidate will assist with the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a diverse fleet of heavy construction equipment, trucks, and support equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing heavy construction equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
  • Assist Journeyman Technicians with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain repairs
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and help identify required repairs
  • Complete oil changes, filter changes, lubrication, inspections, and general servicing
  • Assist with repairs both in the shop and, when required, in the field

Qualifications
  • Registered 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice in Alberta
  • Previous experience working with heavy equipment, construction equipment, trucks, or related machinery is considered an asset
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Basic understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and powertrains
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence with an acceptable driver's abstract
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in both shop and outdoor environments
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship
