Job summary

Mainroad Alberta Contracting LP in Calgary, Alberta is seeking a 1st–4th year Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician (Heavy Duty Mechanic) to support maintenance of our essential fleet used in highway operations. You will perform repairs, routine maintenance, and inspections on heavy equipment and municipal vehicles, while demonstrating safety, teamwork, and a strong work ethic.

Valid licenses and weather resilience are valued by the team.

Qualifications

  • 1st to 4th year heavy equipment technician apprentice required.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract required.
  • Class 3 driver’s license with airbrake endorsement is an asset.
  • Willing to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Thorough knowledge of road/vehicle regulations and safety standards.
  • Experience with highway maintenance and municipal equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with repairs and maintenance on a wide range of company vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills to effectively handle heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Provide cooperation, service, and respect to co-workers, customers, and the general public.
  • Ensure the completion of accurate and timely records and reports as required by company policies and guidelines.
  • Being accountable for all assigned tools and equipment, ensuring they are properly maintained.
  • Perform other related duties and special assignments as required to support operational needs.

Mainroad Alberta Contracting LP is actively seeking a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician (Heavy Duty Mechanic) to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. In this position you will play an important role in maintaining our essential fleet of vehicles and equipment, directly contributing to safe and efficient highway operations.

What you bring:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year heavy equipment technician apprentice is required.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract is required.
  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with airbrake endorsement is an asset.
  • Prior mechanical experience working on highway maintenance and/or municipal equipment (including tandem highway trucks, pickup trucks, loaders, etc.) is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
  • Ability to acquire and record accurate information.
  • Willing to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Capable of performing heavy physical labour.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Positive attitude with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Safety conscious.
  • Dedicated and committed.

This role involves a range of job duties, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with repairs and maintenance on a wide range of company vehicles and equipment, adhering to established standards and safety protocols.
