Heavy Equipment (Excavator) Operator

Apply locations Bowmanville, Ontario time type Full time posted on Posted Yesterday job requisition id R23824 Our Emergency Response division in Bowmanville is looking for a Heavy Equipment (Excavator) Operator to join its team!


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Safely operate and/or have the ability to operate various equipment including excavator and other heavy equipment: mini excavator, skid steer, and/or back hoe.
  2. Conduct environmental clean-up activities
  3. Ensure Hazardous-Materials incident mitigation
  4. Perform chemical transfers
  5. Perform technical rescue activities
  6. Involvement in chemical firefighting tasks
  7. Provide dangerous goods consulting
  8. Participate in various Industrial services
  9. Responding to various emergencies as requested
  10. Participating in job specific and health & safety training as required
  11. Operating his/her position in an efficient and safe manner
  12. Participating in standby confined space rescue work
  13. Completing work related documentation and reporting
  14. Follow all established organizational policies and procedures.
  15. Support the vision and values of the organization.
  16. Promote and participate in a work environment free of workplace harassment and violence.
  17. Perform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or others.
  18. Reporting workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or others.
  19. Adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act.
  20. Participate in team/staff meetings when required.
  21. Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and minimizes risk.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Post-secondary education, preferably in a related area of study
  2. NFPA 472 Hazardous Material Operations
  3. NFPA 1001 level 1 or 2
  4. On-call work availability for emergency response
  5. Hazardous materials and/or environmental experience an asset
  6. Vacuum truck experience an asset
  7. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
  8. Confined space awareness
  9. Reliable means of personal transportation
  10. Willingness to work at extreme heights and within confined spaces
  11. Participate in pre-employment and post-incident drug & alcohol testing
  12. Professional and trustworthy, with a customer focus to his/her work
  13. Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  14. Valid Certification in First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain)
  15. Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
