Job summary

Finning Canada is seeking a dedicated Heavy Duty Mechanic to perform field maintenance and repairs on Caterpillar engines and equipment. Based in Yellowknife, NT, with a Mon-Fri 5x2 shift, you will troubleshoot, service, and document work for customers in a dynamic mining-adjacent setting.

Candidates must have Journeyperson HET certification, a valid driver’s license, and strong safety awareness. Finning offers competitive wages, benefits, pension, training, and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification is required.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Interprovincial HET certification or equivalent is essential.
• Experience with CAT SIS/ET is advantageous.
• Strong communication and safety awareness on site.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot equipment and perform repairs in the field.
• Interact with customers, products, and Finning team members.
• Use CAT SIS and ET daily for diagnostics and service.
• Complete service reports and warranty documentation.
• Support on-site safety requirements and company standards.
• Collaborate with Service Supervisor on tasks as needed.

Based in Yellowknife, NT on a Monday to Friday, 5x2 shift schedule.

Job Description:

Major Job Functions

• Trouble shooting equipment and perform equipment repairs
• Interact with customers, products and sales support, and the rest of the Finning team
• Utilize Caterpillar SIS and ET daily
• Complete technical documentation (service reports, warranty, crossover notes)
• Providing support with reference to on-site safety requirements
• Maintain Finning Customer Service Commitment
• Work with the Service Supervisor on various tasks as required

Specific Skills & Experience

• Interprovincial Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Certification
• Valid driver’s license with a successful recent drivers abstract
• Safety conscious team player with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with a high attention to detail
• Completion of Finning S-Levels, Failure Analysis, Machine Electronic Controls, or Tier 4 training would be considered an asset
• Completion of Caterpillar product courses would be considered an asset
• Previous Caterpillar mining equipment repair experience would be considered an asset
