Job summary

Finning is hiring multiple Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanics to support our customer in Elk Valley, working on ultra-class Caterpillar mining equipment. This permanent Field Heavy Duty Mechanic role offers stability and clear growth, with a focus on troubleshooting, running repairs and preventative maintenance in demanding terrain.

You will diagnose faults, perform repairs in the field, and maintain communications with customers to maximize value of work performed, including CAT equipment

Qualifications

• Interprovincial Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Certification is required.
• Clean Drivers’ Abstract for last 5 years.
• Minimum 3+ years as Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician in field.
• Strong electrical, hydraulic and emissions systems knowledge.
• Engine rebuilding or component rebuilding experience helpful.
• Transmission or hydraulic testing experience beneficial.
• Gas engine or power generation experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair and maintain CAT equipment in a field environment.
• Respond to customer needs in a positive, timely manner to ensure value for work performed.
• Diagnose faults using testing equipment to determine repair scope.
• Complete paperwork and maintain clear customer communication.

Job Description

Take on a role where your skills and passion keep the heavy iron moving. As a Field Heavy Duty Mechanic, you’ll troubleshoot and perform running repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems and perform preventative maintenance across a wide range of Caterpillar Mining Equipment.

Your work will include

• Trouble shoot, repair and maintain CAT equipment in a field environment
• Respond to customer needs in a positive, supportive, and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed.
• Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
• Completing required paperwork and maintaining clear customer communication

Specific Skills & Experience

• Interprovincial Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Certification
• Clean Drivers’ Abstract (5 yr)
• 3+ years experience as a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician, with demonstrated time in the field
• Strong skills in Electrical, Hydraulic and Emissions systems
• Engine and/or component rebuilding experience would be beneficial
• Transmission or Hydraulic testing experience
• Previous gas engine and power generation experience would be considered an asset

Important Details

• Shift based in Elkford, BC
• $300/month LOA (Commuters/non-residents (80+ km away) who provide own housing)
• A condition of employment includes the ability to obtain Customer Site access (Drug & Alcohol, fitness testing) and wear a respirator where applicable
