Job summary

Prairie Mountain Health is seeking Qualified Persons Security Officers (QPSO) to support safe, secure healthcare environments. Officers are licensed guards who de-escalate, protect patients and staff, and supervise custody transfers under the Mental Health Act.

Role requires QP training, Manitoba licensure, radio proficiency, and ability to work with vulnerable populations. Duties include incident reporting, patrols, and collaboration with clinical teams.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education (MB Standards).
• Minimum of one year experience as a Security Patrol Officer in a healthcare setting.
• Eligible for and maintains licensure to practice as a Security Officer (Guard) in Manitoba.
• Successful completion of Qualified Persons (QP) training per Mental Health Act.
• Proficiency with hand held radios or radio communications devices.
• Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence and access to a personal vehicle for Prairie Mountain Health service.
• Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Internet applications.
• Knowledge of issues affecting vulnerable populations (homelessness, addictions, harm reduction, crime prevention, public safety).
• Ability to perform duties regularly and to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and maintain positive working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Maintains physical presence to provide rapid response to violent, aggressive, and threatening persons; uses escalation of force when needed.
• Protects life and property at PMH-designated sites.
• Works with law enforcement as necessary.
• Custody and safe escort for Mental Health clients between units as required.
• Safely escorts at-risk persons within the campus for care needs and documentation.
• Responds to emergencies and supports incident command; assists with fire safety and other codes.
• Provides training and orientation to security personnel as directed.
• Reports unsafe equipment or infrastructure to supervisor.
• Monitors CCTV, access control, and related security systems.
• Evicts non-authorized persons with clinical coordination as needed.
• Maintains documentation and daily activity reports as required.
• Issues notices and information related to Provincial Offences where applicable.
• Maintains licensure and certifications required by employer and regulatory bodies.
• Performs grounds patrols and reports deficiencies.
