The Organization
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is currently recruiting for a Health Program Coordinator. Reporting to the Community Wellness Manager, this position plays a vital role in helping Métis Albertans access financial support for travel to medical appointments through the Medical Travel Program. The program offers mileage reimbursement and accommodations for eligible appointments across the province, helping to reduce barriers to care and improve access to essential health services. We are looking for a compassionate, detail-oriented, and organized individual who is passionate about community health and supporting underserved populations. The Health Program Coordinator will have strong communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a commitment to delivering respectful, client-centered service. In this role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of Métis citizens across Alberta.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer the Medical Travel Program, including assessing client eligibility and managing applications for mileage reimbursement and short-term accommodations.
- Respond to phone and email inquiries related to the Medical Travel Program by providing accurate information, addressing client concerns, and offering guidance on application processes, eligibility requirements, and available supports.
- Collect appropriate information and documentation for program access and accurately enter data into client management software to process applications.
- Use client management software to develop internal and external reports to partners and funders.
- Organize accommodations with site staff at Renaissance Tower and select hotels. This includes coordinating and booking residential check-in and check-out processes, communicating health and safety information, outlining house rules, and arranging a housekeeper to clean units after each stay.
- Seek networking opportunities, and build, foster, and maintain relationships with internal and external partners, including critical and collaborative partnerships in academic and health care sectors/organizations.
- Support the dissemination of program and initiative outputs through reports and other knowledge translation products for the Métis community and other partners.
- Support community knowledge dissemination and health literacy through community health events.
- Create and submit abstracts, posters, and presentations for national and international conferences.
- Develop relationships with the Métis community with the intent of informing existing and future Otipemisiwak Métis Government Health Programming and Services.
- Additional data entry-related tasks using Microsoft Excel and/or Google Forms.
- Other administrative tasks, as required, to support the Medical Travel Program.
- Other organizational tasks, as required.

- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary Diploma/Degree in a related field is preferred; however, equivalent experience will be considered.
- Two (2) years experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation is an asset.
- Experience implementing health, non-profit, or other community-based programs is an asset.
- Training in trauma informed care and person-centered care is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Position will be based in Edmonton.
- Ability to work Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Some travel throughout the province of Alberta, with notice, is a requirement.
- Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license and an operational vehicle.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check with renewal every two years is required.
