A healthcare organization in Edmonton is seeking an Access and Disclosure Specialist. The role involves processing health information requests and coding clinical data. The ideal candidate will have a diploma in Health Information Management and CHIMA certification. Strong data analysis and customer service skills are essential. This is a casual position with competitive hourly wages ranging from $31.13 to $38.98.
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Edmonton/North/Central Zone, the Access and Disclosure Specialist is responsible for processing requests for health information. Requests are received from individual and third-party stakeholders, both internal and external to Alberta Health Services. The A & D Specialist manages and processes production orders, subpoenas, search warrants, and court orders issued by the judicial system. Attention to detail and adherence to legislative requirements, including the Health Information Act (HIA), other relevant legislation, and AHS standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures are essential. This includes accessing health information in various formats – paper, electronic, and microfilm. The individual must maintain high standards of quality, ensuring accurate information is released within established turnaround times.
As a Health Information Management Professional I, you will:
Be responsible for coding and abstracting data from clinical records, releasing information, and conducting data quality assurance. In accordance with AHS procedures and the HIA, you will gather, retrieve, collate, code, analyze, interpret clinical and demographic data, and perform statistical reporting and regular data quality reviews for patient records.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of a diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Graduate of an approved school for Health Information Management professionals. CHIMA Certified and in good standing. Minimum 1-3 years of access and disclosure experience within a complex healthcare environment or equivalent. Keyboarding skills with a minimum typing speed of 45 wpm. A typing test and an assessment based on HIA will be administered for selected candidates. Candidates must pass a typing test and HIA assessment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to provide high-level customer service, analyze, problem-solve, and make decisions per legislation and policies. Technical aptitude for information systems and applications (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, Adobe). Ability to organize and prioritize in a high-paced environment. Proficient in English communication. Self-motivated, independent, with conflict management, decision-making, and critical thinking skills.
