Job summary

BayCare Health System is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist Senior to join our St. Joseph’s Hospital team in Tampa, FL.

This full-time role focuses on ensuring timely access to electronic medical records and accurate documentation for patient care. The ideal candidate holds a high school diploma or GED and has at least 1 year of HIM experience or HIT program training, with strong attention to detail and HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year health information management experience or healthcare front desk/registrar/medical records experience or HIT program graduate.

Responsibilities

• Prepares documents for scanning into the electronic document management system.
• Ensures timely availability of the electronic medical record for patient care.
• Analyzes medical records for physician completion using Joint Commission standards.
• Performs all aspects of Release of Information including attending court trials, responding to subpoenas, and HIPAA follow-up.
• Interacts daily with assisting physicians to complete medical records.
• Maintains scanning equipment to ensure quality of scanned documents and maximize performance.

Role Overview

• The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist Senior prepares documents for scanning into the electronic document management system.
• Ensures timely availability of the electronic medical record for patient care.
• Analyzes medical records for physician completion utilizing the Joint Commission standards.
• Performs all aspects of Release of Information including attending court trials and responding to Subpoenas and doing follow-up billing utilizing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Guidelines.
• Interacts daily with assisting physicians with completion of their medical records.
• Maintains scanning equipment to assure the quality of scanned documents and maximize performance of scanning equipment.

Qualifications

Education

High School Graduate or Equivalent GED Experience

Experience

1 year health information management or experience in healthcare front desk receptionist, admitting/registrar, patient financial, medical records or clerical OR graduate from an accredited Health Information Technology (HIT) program.
