The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) is the labour union for the professional hockey players in the National Hockey League. Established in 1967, and with headquarters in Toronto, the NHLPA’s principal role is to represent the players of the National Hockey League and to guarantee that their rights as players are upheld under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
The NHLPA has a current permanent opportunity for a Claims Specialist to join its Health Benefits Department at its downtown Toronto location.
Job Duties:
- Assist with processing Canadian, US and International health and dental claims.
- Liaise with players, their agents and advisors, benefits administrators, insurance companies.
- Verify whether services are covered under the plan for participants and helping to submit pre certs and predeterminations.
- Identify need for improvements, patterns and potential issues with plan.
- Cross training to cover the functions of benefits team members during vacations.
- Document the processes of the position.
- Manage career ending disability claims.
- Process life insurance claims.
- Assist with submitting appeals.
- Data analysis.
- Assist with back up for pension matters.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- 3-5 years of health and dental claims specialist and/or management experience.
- Post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in related field of nursing, benefits administration etc.
- Solid knowledge of medical terminology, as well as provincial and federal insurance regulations.
- An overall strong proficiency in the entire Microsoft Office suite of software, especially Excel.
- Excellent auditing and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Customer focused mindset.
- Superior problem-solving skills.
