Position Overview
The Head Server or Shift Lead isresponsible for supporting the daily operations of the PrairieRose Kitchen restaurant and Red Willow Café grab 'n' go while providing leadership and direction to front-of-house team members during assigned shifts.This position ensures guests receive friendly, efficient, and high-quality service while maintaining food and beverage service standards, cleanliness, and operational procedures.
The Head Server / Shift Lead acts as a key point of contact for employees and guests during their shift and supports the Food and Beverage Manager with daily operations; working closely with culinary, bar, guest services, and spa operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead pre-shift briefings and communicatoreservations, groups, menu changes, allergies, VIPs, spa considerations, andoperational priorities.
- Assign sections and side work and coordinatebreaks to maintain service coverage.
- Monitor service pace, table status, guestsatisfaction, and team performance throughout the shift.
- Ensure food safety, sanitation cleanlinessstandards are followed.
- Report accidents, hazards, equipment concerns,and other safety issues promptly.
- Follow and reinforce all company health andsafety policies.
- Coach employees in real time and providepractical support during peak periods.
- Coordinate with kitchen and bar leadership ontiming, quality, shortages, and service recovery.
- Handle guest concerns within authority andescalate significant matters appropriately.
- Complete shift handovers, closing checks, cash/POSrequirements, and incident documentation as assigned.
- Ensure service feels attentive and polishedwhile respecting the relaxed pace and atmosphere of a thermal spa.
- Guide guests through menus and confidentlyexplain ingredients, dietary options, beverages, and spa appropriaterecommendations.
- Encourage thoughtful upgrades and additionalpurchases without creating pressured sales experience.
- Recognize guest cues and adapt service style toindividual needs.
- Support accurate POS use, discounts, voids,complimentary items, cash handling, tip procedures, and end-of-shift reporting.
- Monitor service supplies and communicateinventory needs.
- Support training documentation, performancefeedback, and operational improvement.
- Assist with server, host, busser, andfood-runner training and mock services.
- Participate in menu tastings and productknowledge training.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3years’ experience in food and beverage restaurant, café, or hospitality operations.
- Previousleadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Ability towork in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strongproblem solving and teamwork skills.
- Serve ItRight Saskatchewan (SIRS) certification.
- Safe FoodHandling Certification is an asset.
- WHMIScertification is preferred.
- First Aideand CPR certification is an asset.
- Minimum 19years of age.
- Ability towork flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shiftsas required.
