Job summary

YMCA Calgary is seeking a part-time Head Basketball Coach for the Girls’ Only Basketball Skill Development Program. The role focuses on mentoring volunteers, delivering engaging clinics, and ensuring a positive participant experience within a community-serving YMCA facility in Calgary.

Ideal candidates bring NCCP basketball certification (asset), 3–5 years coaching youth, strong communication, and a clear police check. Flexible after-school hours and Saturdays are required.

Responsibilities

• Be present at basketball programs to support volunteers, participants and parents
• Liaise with Sport Supervisor and assist with program evaluations
• Mentor and develop volunteer basketball coaches and conduct coach development observations
• Recruit and train basketball coaches; ensure strong customer experience
• Communicate effectively in diverse settings and work flexible hours including evenings/weekends
• Attend events such as Basketball Tournaments and All Sport One Day

Salary: $20.35/hour - $22.61/hour

*The successful candidate will be available to work Tuesday afternoon/Evening and Saturdays.

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following;

• National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) in basketball would be considered an asset
• 3-5 years’ experience coaching sport programs to children and youth
• Customer service experience
• Supervisory experience considered an asset
• Ability to manage and adjust to changing environment
• Experience working with children and youth
• Effectively communicate in a variety of settings; excellent oral and written communication skills
• Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
• AED certification
• Evidence of a cleared police security clearance including a vulnerable sector search
• Three professional references required.

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Be present at Basketball Programs to provide support to volunteers, participants and parents
• Liaise with Sport Supervisor and assist with program evaluations
• Mentor and develop volunteer basketball coaches and conduct coach development observations
• Assist in recruiting and training of basketball coaches
• Effectively communicate in a variety of settings
• Works collaboratively with colleagues to ensure best delivery of customer experience
• Is available to work flexible hours, including irregular and extended hours, esp. evenings and weekends.
• Attend ILT special events ie: Basketball Tournaments, All Sport One Day
