Job summary

New West Truck Centres is seeking an Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic in Medicine Hat, AB. The role supports training and hands-on experience across a range of heavy‑duty trucks, with mentors from Journeyperson Technicians and shop foremen.

Qualifications

• Registered 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice.
• Previous hands-on experience working on trucks.
• Basic set of tools required to perform assigned work.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities.
• Reliable, accountable, and comfortable working as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, servicing, and repairs on heavy‑duty trucks.
• Assist with diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, braking systems, electrical systems, and aftertreatment systems.
• Complete mechanical repairs under the guidance of experienced Journeyperson Technicians.
• Use diagnostic equipment and technical resources to identify and troubleshoot mechanical concerns.
• Review work orders and communicate repair findings with the service team.
• Accurately document repairs completed and time spent on assigned work.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow established safety procedures and manufacturer repair standards.
• Participate in ongoing technical training and apprenticeship development.
