Job summary

New West Truck Centres in Red Deer, AB is seeking a Heavy Duty Technician (3rd Year - Journeyman) to join our Service team. This full-time role features a four-day work week (Tuesday–Friday) with 7:00 AM–6:00 PM shifts and overtime opportunities.

You'll perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy duty trucks, with CVIP inspections and OEM training available. Relocation assistance is offered for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certification is preferred.
  • Registered 4th Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentices are encouraged to apply.
  • CVIP certification is an asset.
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver's licence is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and general repairs on heavy duty trucks and equipment.
  • Complete CVIP inspections and related repairs.
  • Test vehicles to ensure safety standards and manufacturer specs.
  • Coordinate with Parts Technicians for required components.

The Role

This position focuses on preventative maintenance, inspections, general repairs, CVIP inspections, and troubleshooting on heavy duty trucks and equipment while working as part of a collaborative Service team.

Repair & Maintenance
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and general repairs on heavy duty trucks and equipment
  • Complete CVIP inspections and related repairs
  • Test vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards and manufacturer specifications
  • Coordinate with Parts Technicians to ensure required components are available or ordered
Troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems
  • Review repair concerns provided by Service Advisors
  • Diagnose faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment and OEM procedures
  • Communicate repair findings, recommended repairs, and estimated completion timelines with Service Advisors
Documentation
  • Accurately record labour time, diagnostics, repairs performed, and parts used
  • Complete repair orders and inspection documentation thoroughly and accurately
  • Ensure documentation meets company, OEM, warranty, and regulatory requirements
Professional Development
  • Participate in ongoing OEM, manufacturer, and in-house technical training
  • Continue developing your diagnostic and repair skills on modern heavy truck systems
  • Maintain certifications and stay current with evolving technologies and industry best practices
  • Share knowledge and support apprentice development as opportunities arise

  • Tuesday-Friday
  • 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • 10.5-hour shifts
  • Every Saturday, Sunday, and Monday off
