Job summary

College of the North Atlantic (CNA) in Placentia is seeking a qualified Counsellor to support students across academic, career, and personal development. As a key member of Student Services, you will provide accessible, professional counselling and guidance tailored to individual needs.

The role includes liaising with staff, administering tests, delivering job search and study skills courses, and participating in campus activities.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education with a focus on Educational Psychology or Counselling.
  • Recent, relevant work experience; eligible for professional association.
  • Experience in academic, career, personal and financial counselling.

Salary Information Salary will be determined in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, based on the candidate's education and experience.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • As key members of Student Services, our Counsellors are committed to delivering accessible and professional support that addresses the unique needs of every student, promoting both academic success and personal development.
  • Provide guidance and counselling services to CNA students, including individual, career, and group counselling.
  • Liaise with staff and administration on behalf of students through committees and on an individual basis.
  • Assist with conflict mediation and resolution.
  • Administer and interpret standardized tests associated with individual career and group counselling.
  • Deliver student support courses such as job search training, study skills and related activities.
  • May involve assisting with various student affairs activities; including student council, recreation programs, winter carnival, student aid and other campus activities such as orientation, special events and tours.
  • Other related duties as required.
Screening Criteria
  • Master's Degree in Education or equivalent with a major in Educational Psychology or Counselling. (Course work facilitated sound working knowledge of current counselling interventions and strategies, assessment tools and practices, and Adult Education Theory and Practice).
  • Recent, relevant work experience; eligibility for membership in an appropriate professional association; experience or expertise in academic, career, personal and financial counselling (assets).

  • Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
    • Credentials obtained outside of Canada will require an evaluation to determine their Canadian educational equivalency. This evaluation must support the educational requirements for the position.
