Job summary

College of the North Atlantic (CNA) seeks an experienced Fleet Maintenance Leader to plan, organize, and supervise maintenance of the College's fleet, including heavy equipment, cranes, trucks, and light vehicles. You will oversee daily garage operations and coordinate trades, with accountability for safety and budget controls.

The role requires a diploma in a related heavy equipment field, leadership ability, and experience in planning and asset management.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Heavy Duty Service Technician, Truck Transport Technician, Automotive Service Technician, or Heavy Equipment Operator (equivalencies will be considered).
  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy and light motorized equipment.
  • Experience supervising and inspecting the work of trades personnel engaged in equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Experience planning, prioritizing, and managing maintenance projects and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and supervise the maintenance and repair of the College's fleet, including heavy equipment, cranes, trucks, and light vehicles.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for daily operations of the maintenance garage.
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of trades employees engaged in equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Maintain a provincial fleet management and equipment list.
  • Monitor fleet condition and recommend equipment purchases, replacements, and disposals.
  • Advise senior management on fleet maintenance, equipment requirements, and asset management strategies.
  • Prepare reports to support maintenance operations, planning, and decision-making.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
  • Investigate, document, and report workplace safety incidents and injuries.
  • Monitor and control repair, inventory, and labour costs to ensure efficient operations.
  • Oversee the procurement of parts, materials, and equipment required for maintenance activities.
  • Support continuous improvement of maintenance practices, fleet performance, and service delivery.
  • Other related duties as required.

Screening Criteria
  • Diploma in Heavy Duty Service Technician, Truck Transport Technician, Automotive Service Technician, or Heavy Equipment Operator (equivalencies will be considered).
  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy and light motorized equipment.
  • Experience supervising and inspecting the work of trades personnel engaged in equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Experience planning, prioritizing, and managing maintenance projects and schedules.

  • Knowledge of the safety regulations related to the operations of heavy equipment maintenance and repairs.

Conditions of Offer
  • When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.
  • Valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 License.
  • Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, and/or professional memberships as required for the position.
Conditions of Acceptance
  • Travel to various campuses within NL to perform duties. This will require overnight stay, at times extending for a full working week duration.
