Job summary

The Food Service Worker at College of the North Atlantic’s Burin campus will provide standardized kitchen services, including meal preparation, reheating, and serving meals with attention to safety and quality. You will clean and sanitize work areas and equipment, operate a computerized cash register, and deliver professional customer service in a busy campus dining environment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, relevant institutional kitchen experience, and familiarity

  • Assist with kitchen prep: chop vegetables, portion ingredients, and set up food stations.
  • Reheating and serving meals safely and presenting them appetizingly.
  • Clean and sanitize work stations, surfaces, and high-touch areas to meet safety standards.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and properly store dishes and tools.
  • Operate a computerized cash register and process cash, debit, and credit transactions.
  • Other duties as related to food service may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Food Service Worker will perform standardized food services work for College of the North Atlantic's Burin campus by:

  • Assisting with preparation work in the kitchen - chopping vegetables, portioning ingredients, and setting up food stations.
  • Reheating and serving meals - safely reheat meals following food safety practices and present meals in an appetizing manner.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing work stations - regularly wiping surfaces, sanitizing high-touch areas, ensuring that the kitchen meets food safety and occupational health standards.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment - properly sanitize and store dishes, utensils, and kitchen tools.
  • Operating a computerized cash register - process cash, debit, and credit transactions, and provide professional customer service.
  • Other duties as it relates to food service may be required.
Salary Information

CG20 - $ 21.26 - $ 23.06 per hour

Screening Criteria
  • Graduation from high school (equivalencies to be considered).
  • Recent, relevant experience working in an institutional and/or industrial kitchen.
Assessment Criteria
  • Knowledge of the food service industry including food safety and sanitation.
  • Knowledge of a computerized cash register/system.
  • Ability to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to effectively exchange information.
  • Ability to manage time and tasks.
  • Professionalism.

Conditions of Offer
  • When requested by the Employer, a recent and satisfactory Certificate of Conduct must be provided.
Conditions of Acceptance
  • May require periods of kneeling, bending, walking and standing, which may result in fatigue; lifting and moving of objects; and occasionally using machinery and equipment.
  • Shift work and weekend work is required.
