You will build campaigns, generate qualified inbound leads, and develop messaging around our ICP. You’ll work with our internal design support and move Speer’s marketing from founder-led to scalable, repeatable execution.

Job description

Speer is a Toronto-based technology hub that designs and builds software, platforms, and digital products for ambitious companies. We do not just ship features. We don't really think in terms of clients. The companies we build with are collaborators, and we treat them that way to build technology that is defensible, commercially meaningful, and built to last, with intellectual property strategy baked in from day one. Our tagline says it plainly: reframe the future.

We have grown on the strength of founder-led sales and consistent year-over-year revenue. Now we are building our first true in-house marketing function, and we are looking for the person to own it.

The Role

This is not a brand-only role, and it is not a role where you disappear into a large department. You will act as an extension of the sales team: building campaigns, generating qualified inbound leads, creating content, and representing Speer in the market. You will take our marketing ideas, our existing ICP, and our internal design support, and turn them into consistent campaigns and real pipeline.

Responsibilities
  • Build and own an inbound lead-generation pipeline that feeds the sales team.
  • Plan and run social campaigns aimed at Speer's target customers across channels such as LinkedIn, email, and content.
  • Develop two or three campaign concepts around our existing ICP, then test messaging and refine based on what converts.
  • Create marketing content and copy: social posts, captions, blogs, case studies, landing pages, and email campaigns.
  • Turn company activity and event coverage into timely, engaging content.
  • Track performance from click to lead to meeting to closed sale, and adjust campaigns accordingly.
  • Work directly with sales on lead quality, conversion, and pitch materials.
  • Coordinate, attend, and represent Speer at industry and company-hosted events.
  • Make simple design edits using existing templates (our internal design team handles heavier creative work).
  • Bring speed, consistency, and accountability to a function that has lived across several people until now.
Qualifications
  • Experience in B2B marketing, growth marketing, demand generation, or a closely related area. We are open on seniority: both high-potential early-career marketers and experienced managers are in scope.
  • Experience building and running full-funnel campaigns that generate qualified inbound leads.
  • A strong grasp of positioning, messaging, ICP and persona development, and funnel optimization.
  • The ability to create content across formats (social, blogs, case studies, landing pages, email).
  • Comfort connecting marketing activity to sales outcomes: meetings booked, pipeline, and closed deals.
  • Strong copywriting, creative direction, and project management skills.
  • Self-directed, and comfortable owning outcomes where priorities shift quickly.
Nice to Haves
  • Experience marketing a service rather than a physical or e-commerce product.
  • Experience in a startup or scaling company, ideally one moving from founder-led sales to a repeatable marketing engine.
  • Experience working closely with sales.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems, marketing automation, paid media, and analytics tools.
  • Experience planning or promoting events, webinars, or executive briefings.
  • A portfolio of past campaigns, content, or lead-generation work.
  • Basic design capability to reduce load on the internal design team (advanced design is not required).
Compensation
  • Full-time, Monday to Friday.
  • Fully in-office, downtown Toronto.
  • Pay Range: $70,000 to $120,000 base per year, commensurate with experience, with potential for additional performance-based compensation.
  • Comprehensive benefits, including dental care, vision care, paid time off, and wellness support.
Why Speer
  • Ownership: build and own Speer's marketing function at a pivotal growth stage.
  • Visible impact: your work connects directly to pipeline and revenue, not vanity metrics.
  • Room to experiment: strategic guardrails with real executional freedom, and space to test ideas without being penalized for thoughtful failures.
  • Support: work directly with sales and leadership, with an internal design team for heavier creative.
  • Growth: a genuine path to senior marketing leadership as Speer scales.
