Job summary

Dakota Dunes Thermal Spa in Saskatoon area is seeking a Grounds Technician to maintain outdoor spaces and ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for guests and staff. You will perform routine landscaping, seasonal duties, and report maintenance needs to the Facilities Operations Manager.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to operate landscaping equipment, and a commitment to safety procedures. Flexible hours including evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in landscaping and groundskeeping.
• Experience in resort or hotel maintenance preferred.
• Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment.
• Knowledge of plant types and seasonal care is an asset.
• WHMIS and First Aid/CPR certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, plantings, trees, shrubs, planters, and landscaped areas with watering, pruning, fertilizing, weeding and seasonal care.
• Keep pathways, entrances, patios, decks, and outdoor spaces clean and hazard-free.
• Perform snow removal, shoveling, plowing, de-icing and ice monitoring.
• Inspect exterior furniture, lighting, drainage, and outdoor fixtures and report deficiencies.
• Support waste removal, seasonal setup, and outdoor event needs.
• Operate ground equipment safely and keep it clean and serviced.

Position Overview

The Grounds Technicianwill report to the Facilities Operations Manager and is responsiblefor maintaining the outdoor grounds and surrounding property to ensure that theDakota Dunes Thermal Spa presents a clean, safe, attractive, and welcomingenvironment for guests and employees.

This position performs routine landscaping,grounds maintenance, seasonal duties, and general outdoor upkeep whileidentifying and reporting maintenance and safety concerns.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, native plantings, gardens, trees, shrubs, planters, and landscaped areas through appropriate watering, pruning, fertilizing, weeding, and seasonal care.
• Keep pathways, entrances, patios, decks, outdoor relaxation areas, and service routes clean and free of hazards, snow, and ice.
• Perform snow removal, shovelling, plowing, sanding, de-icing, and ice monitoring according to established priorities.
• Inspect exterior furniture, fencing, gates, lighting, signage, drainage, irrigation, and outdoor fixtures and report or correct deficiencies.
• Support waste removal, litter control, seasonal setup, storm cleanup, and outdoor event requirements.
• Operate ground equipment safely and maintain equipment in clean, serviceable condition.
• Monitor slip, trip, ice, drainage, weather, and landscape hazards and respond promptly.
• Use chemical, fertilizers, fuels, and equipment in accordance with WHMIS, safety procedures, and environmental requirements.
• Protect guest privacy and tranquility when performing work near thermal pools and relaxation spaces.
• Support responsible water use, native landscaping, waste reduction, and environmentally conscious grounds practices.
• Coordinate work timing with other departments to reduce noise and disruption during peak guest periods.
• Assist with landscaping turnover, deficiency identification, irrigation testing, exterior equipment setup, and seasonal readiness.
• Maintain seasonal maintenance routines, inspection checklists, equipment inventories, and snow/ice response procedures.
• Support placement, preparation and maintenance of outdoor furniture, signage, and guest-use areas.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3years’ experience in landscaping and groundskeeping.
• Experience in resort or hotel maintenance is preferred.
• Ability to operate and maintain landscaping equipment.
• Knowledge of plants, trees, flowers, and the ability to maintain them is an asset.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
• Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures.
• Attention to detail and ability to interact with guests and other staff members.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and perform physically demanding work; and exposure to varying temperatures.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
• WHMIS certification is preferred.
• First Aid and CPR certification is preferred.
• Valid driver's license is required.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as required.
