Job summary

Voith Paper Hawkesbury seeks a Grinding Operator to perform a series of precision grinding tasks for paper machine rolls. The role involves inspecting journals, aligning rolls, selecting grinding wheels, and programming controls to manage removal depth and feed rates.

The position requires basic computer skills and bilingual English/French capabilities, with day and afternoon rotating shifts. Prior experience is beneficial but not required, and a pre-hire medical exam is part of the process.

Qualifications

• Previous experience not required, but operator experience an asset.
• Mechanically inclined person an asset.
• Basic computer skills required (such as data entry to input measurements into machine program).
• Bilingual in English and French.

Responsibilities

• Inspect journals for score marks or any damage. Report to supervisor any occurrence.
• Clean babbitt post.
• Ensure that supporting surface is round and concentric with the bearing surface.
• Position and secure cylinder with universal joint and both steady rest.
• Align and level roll.
• Ensure all specifications on work order match roll and/or blueprint.
• Define which grinding wheel or belt to use.
• Program crown when applicable.
• Remove nylon binders when applicable.
• Engage work feed.
• Program control to adjust depth of removal, grinding speed and feed rates.

In Canada, our plant in Hawkesbury operates since 1985, where our teams perform the mechanical maintenance, and the manufacturing of roll covers for the paper machine rolls. These steel rolls, that weigh as much as 50 tons, are of very high precision to be used for papermaking.

Under general direction of the Production Supervisor, the incumbent will perform series of operations.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Previous experience not required, but operator experience an asset
• Mechanically inclined person an asset
• Basic computer skills required (such as data entry to input measurements into machine program).
• Polyvalent, motivated individual with a keen eye for quality and a focus on safety
• Functional knowledge of imperial measure system
• Available for day and afternoon rotating shifts
• As part of our hiring process, we require a pre-hire medical examination
• Bilingual in English and French

• Permanent, full-time position
• Entry wage of 27.96$, upto 32.89$/hour according to collective agreement
• 2$ /hour evening and night premium
• Afternoon shift is from 3pm to 11pm or night shift 11pm to 7AM
