Job summary

Voith Paper in Hawkesbury, Ontario, is hiring a Grinding Operator. The role involves inspecting rolls, aligning surfaces, and operating precision grinding equipment in a unionized Canadian plant.

English/French bilingualism, basic data entry, and a safety-focused attitude are essential. Permanent, full-time position with entry wage between 27.96 and 32.89 CAD per hour plus a 2 CAD/hour evening/night premium.

Responsibilities

• Inspect journals for score marks or damage and report to supervisor.
• Ensure supporting surface is round and concentric with bearing surface.
• Position and secure cylinder with universal joint and steady rests.
• Align and level roll.
• Verify all work order specifications match roll/blueprint.
• Select appropriate grinding wheel or belt.
• Program crown when applicable.
• Remove nylon binders when applicable.
• Engage work feed.
• Program control to adjust depth of removal, grinding speed and feed rates.

In Canada, our plant in Hawkesbury operates since 1985, where our teams perform the mechanical maintenance, and the manufacturing of roll covers for the paper machine rolls. These steel rolls, that weigh as much as 50 tons, are of very high precision to be used for papermaking.

Under general direction of the Production Supervisor, the incumbent will perform series of operations.

Grinding wheels or belt grinding non-metallic materials such as rubber, polyurethane, fiberglass cover.

Dutues abd tasks:

• Inspect journals for score marks or any damage. Report to supervisor any occurrence.
• Ensure that supporting surface is round and concentric with the bearing surface.
• Position and secure cylinder with universal joint and both steady rest.
• Align and level roll.
• Ensure all specifications on work order match roll and/or blueprint.
• Define which grinding wheel or belt to use.
• Program crown when applicable.
• Remove nylon binders when applicable.
• Engage work feed.
• Program control to adjust depth of removal, grinding speed and feed rates.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Previous experience not required, but operator experience an asset
• Mechanically inclined person an asset
• Basic computer skills required (such as data entry to input measurements into machine program).
• Polyvalent, motivated individual with a keen eye for quality and a focus on safety
• Functional knowledge of imperial measure system
• Available for day and afternoon rotating shifts
• As part of our hiring process, we require a pre-hire medical examination
• Bilingual in English and French
