Job summary

Makivvik in Montreal, QC is recruiting a Program Manager to lead the Gladue Writers team. The role ensures timely Gladue reports and smooth client assignments, with training to stay current on Gladue Principals. Strong collaboration with defense and Crown attorneys is essential.

The position reports to the Assistant Director of the Justice Division and requires travel as needed. Inuit culture knowledge is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or relevant work experience.
  • Effective communication in two of Inuktitut, English or French.
  • Inuit knowledge and understanding required.
  • Experience with the judicial system in Nunavik is an asset.
  • Knowledge of social, judicial or correctional fields.
  • Experience in intervention with youth or adults.

Responsibilities

  • Organize training for all Gladue Writers and ensure continuous learning.

  • Travel as required and act as liaison between frontline workers and upper management.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide support to employees and contract workers.
  • Be a resource on Inuit culture and traditions to government bodies.

Job description

The Gladue Program Manager aims to manage the high demands of Gladue reports requested by the court. Ensures a smooth process of assigning a Gladue Writer a new client and ensuring the reports are completed in a timely fashion. Plans for the Writers to obtain occasional training to stay up to date with all Gladue Principals. Works in close collaboration with both Defense lawyers and Crown Attorneys to ensure a smooth flow of information. Acts as a primary advocate in promoting the Gladue Program.

Reports to:The Assistant Director of the Justice Division in the President’s Department

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of full-time Gladue Writers as well as numerous contract writers;
  • Assign work and provide constructive feedback to team members;
  • Participate in meetings with government and / or outside organizations;
  • Organize training for all Gladue Writers and ensure adequate continuous learning;
  • Manage relationships and ensure collaboration with outside partners including but not limited to Judges, Defense lawyers and Crown Attorneys;
  • Serve as a link between the frontline workers and upper management;
  • Conduct performance reviews, motivate team members and provide support to employees and contract workers;
  • Prepare and submit Gladue reports as required including any statistical reports deemed necessary by the Assistant Director;
  • Act as a resource person regarding Inuit culture and traditions to government bodies and organizations, in matters relating to Justice;
  • Be available to travel, as requested;
  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or relevant work experience;
  • Effective communication skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) languages: Inuktitut, English and/or French;
  • Inuit and cultural knowledge and understanding, is required;
  • Working experience with the judicial system in Nunavik, is an asset;
  • Working knowledge of the social, judicial or correctional field;
  • Experience in intervention with youth or adults;
  • Showing organizational skills and being action oriented;
  • Demonstrating integrity and respect;
  • Be reliable and autonomous;
  • Security clearance is required.
