Job summary

Makivvik is seeking a Program Facilitator to deliver culturally relevant programs in provincial and federal detention facilities for Nunavimmiut. The role involves organizing traditional workshops such as sewing and carving, in collaboration with community justice coordinators.

Travel is required as needed, and you will report to the Correctional Services Program Manager in the Justice Division. A High School Diploma and Inuit cultural knowledge are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Effective communication in at least two of Inuktitut, English and French.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture is required.
  • Experience delivering programs or teaching is preferred.
  • Understanding of social, judicial or correctional contexts is an asset.

The Program Facilitator aims to provide programs and workshops within the different correctional facilities.


Reports to: The Correctional Services Program Manager of the Justice Division in the President’s Department


Responsibilities


  • Deliver culturally relevant programs (such as the Qullik Healthy Relationship Program) to Nunavimmiut who are incarcerated in provincial and federal detention facilities;

  • Organize and deliver traditional workshops with Nunavimmiut who are incarcerated (traditional activities, sewing, carving, etc.);

  • In collaboration with justice committee coordinators, organize and deliver traditional workshops with Nunavimmiut within the communities;

  • Maintain positive relationships with correctional facility staff and raise awareness of the programs offered;

  • Be available to travel, as requested;

  • Perform other related duties within the scope of the position or as requested by supervisor.


Qualifications


  • High School Diploma;

  • Effective communication skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) languages: Inuktitut, English and/or French;

  • Effective Computer skills: Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.);

  • Inuit and cultural knowledge and understanding, is required;

  • Strong desire to support and assist your fellow Inuit in access to culturally appropriate programs and support;

  • Experience in program delivery or teaching;

  • Knowledge of the social, judicial or correctional field, an asset;

  • Experience in intervention with youth or adults;

  • Showing organizational skills and being action oriented;

  • Demonstrating integrity, reliability and is autonomous;

  • Security clearance is required.
