Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) is seeking a GIS Student for our Oil Sands Regulatory team in Calgary. You will collaborate with Regulatory, Environment and Mining groups to build maps, digitize data, and support leading-edge environmental projects under supervision.

The role offers hands-on experience with ESRI ArcGIS Suite, FME, and data management tools, plus exposure to environmental regulations and project workflows.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a GIS degree, applied degree or diploma program.
  • Solid understanding of ESRI products (ArcGIS, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Model Builder).
  • Previous field data collection experience with ArcGIS an asset.
  • ArcGIS Enterprise knowledge is an asset.
  • Experience with FME, Python or AutoCAD is an asset.
  • Understanding of remote sensing methods and data processing (LiDAR; Photogrammetry) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support Regulatory, Environment and Pathways teams by collecting, filing spatial data and generating application maps.
  • Manage and organize existing and new environmental GIS data.
  • Gain hands-on experience with ArcGIS Map, ArcGIS Pro, FME and Global Mapper.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a GIS Student to join our Oil Sands Regulatory team, where you will have the opportunity to collaborate with members of the Mining, Environment, and Regulatory teams, as we work together to build application maps and digitize data. You can contribute to the success of Canadian Natural’s operations by understanding and explaining leading edge environmental regulations.   • Job location: Calgary, AB – Head Office
  • Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off, 8 hours/day (Monday – Friday)
  • Term length: 8 months
  • Term start: May 2027
  • Safety sensitive position: Yes

Key Accountabilities
  • Support Regulatory, Environment and Pathways teams through collecting/filing required spatial data, digitizing data, and generating application maps
  • Manage (review, update, organize) existing and new environmental GIS data
  • Acquire hands-on experience with several widely used industry software programs, including ArcGIS Map, ArcGIS Pro, FME and Global Mapper
  • Help build and maintain innovative models and GIS solutions for unique environmental situations
  • Assist with non-spatial data management for various Environmental disciplines (MS Office)
  • Learn to build project specific maps in Portal to support teams
What You Bring To The Role
  • Currently enrolled in a GIS degree, applied degree or diploma program
  • Motivated, collaborative, organized, and able to manage competing priorities
  • Solid understanding and experience of ESRI products (ESRI ArcGIS, Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Model Builder)
  • Previous field data collection experience using ArcGIS would be an asset
  • ArcGIS Enterprise knowledge is an asset
  • Previous FME, Python, AutoCAD experience is an asset
  • An understanding of remote sensing methods and data processing (LiDAR; Photogrammetry) is an asset
