Job summary

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) is seeking a student intern for positions in Calgary, AB (Head Office) and Fort McMurray, AB. The term offers 4 or 8 months with May 2027 start, involving 5 days on/2 days on in Calgary and 4 days on/3 days off in Fort McMurray, with a safety-sensitive role.

You will assist regulatory filings, data analysis, and Indigenous stakeholder communications, while gaining exposure to field and office-based regulatory activities and reporting requirements.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in 3rd or 4th year of Engineering, Science, Forestry or Environmental Science or equivalent (Political Science, Law and Society Program).
• Valid Class 5 driver's license with clean abstract.
• Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint; basic knowledge of statistical programs is an asset.
• Attention to detail for high-quality work with minimal revisions.
• Strong written communication to condense external correspondence and regulatory decisions.
• Excellent organizational skills to manage concurrent report submissions and stakeholder communications.

Responsibilities

• Support preparation of regulatory applications, reports, and regulator information requests.
• Assist with data compilation and basic analysis for regulatory reporting.
• Contribute to documentation for Indigenous consultation and stakeholder engagement.
• Prepare materials for communication with stakeholders, including Indigenous communities.
• Support regulatory/environmental activities and track compliance conditions.
• Monitor regulatory updates and communicate changes in requirements.

Key Accountabilities

• Support preparation of regulatory applications, reports, and responses to information requests from regulators
• Assist with data compilation and basic analysis for regulatory reporting and submissions
• Contribute to documentation supporting Indigenous consultation and stakeholder engagement requirements
• Help prepare materials for communication with stakeholders, including Indigenous communities
• Support field and office-based regulatory/environmental activities, including tracking approval conditions for compliance
• Monitor regulatory updates, publications, and decisions to help identify and communicate changes in requirements

What You Bring To The Role

• Currently enrolled in your 3rd or 4th year of a program in Engineering, Science, Forestry or Environmental Science or the equivalent of Political Science, Law and Society Program
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract
• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, knowledge of statistical programs would be an asset (i.e. Mini Tab software)
• Attention to detail to generate high quality work requiring minimal revisions
• Strong written communication skills to review and appropriately condense key elements of external correspondence and regulatory decisions
• Strong organizational skills required to coordinate and schedule multiple, concurrent activities related to report and application submissions and reporting to stakeholders
