Job summary

Esri Canada is seeking a senior GIS software engineer to contribute to the design, development, testing, and deployment of advanced web-based GIS solutions. You will build scalable data models and APIs using ArcGIS SDKs and modern web technologies, while estimating effort and shaping delivery plans in an Agile environment.

You will mentor colleagues, participate in code reviews, and support installation, configuration, and integration of Esri and third-party systems.

Qualifications

  • University degree in computer science, software engineering or related discipline.
  • Esri Technical Certification in ArcGIS Desktop Developer Professional or Web Application Developer Professional is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to design, development, testing, and deployment of complex web-based GIS solutions.
  • Develops and maintains scalable data and object models for solution architecture and performance.
  • Estimates development effort and contributes to delivery planning in an agile environment.
  • Translates business requirements into technical solutions and defines functional/non-functional requirements.
  • Supports all phases of the solution development lifecycle including design, development, QA, deployment and documentation.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentorship through code reviews and best practices.
  • Assists with installation, configuration, and integration of customized applications with Esri and third-party technologies.
  • Develops automated testing practices and drives continuous improvement by evaluating new tools and technologies.

Minimum Education Requirement:

  • University degree in computer science, software engineering or related discipline.
  • Esri Technical Certification in either ArcGIS Desktop Developer Professional or Web Application Developer Professional is considered a strong asset.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirement:

  • 5+ years of development experience with GIS and IT applications.
  • Extensive experience developing geospatial and web-based solutions using the ArcGIS platform (ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online), Esri SDKs/APIs (ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript and .NET, ArcPy, ArcGIS API for Python), and modern web technologies including JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, HTML5, CSS3, and C#/.NET.
  • Strong foundation in geospatial data and application performance, including experience with Esri geodatabases and geoprocessing tools, SQL Server and relational database concepts, and web APIs with an understanding of performance and scalability considerations.
  • Experience in Multiple Regression Analysis (MRA) is considered an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated customer focus with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate, and provide insights on emerging and new technologies.
  • Proven experience reviewing high-level business requirements, identifying or researching alternative solutions as needed, prototyping options, and delivering customized solutions that meet business needs.
  • Experience with geospatial deep learning tools is considered an asset.
  • Experience or exposure to the property (land and buildings) assessment industry is considered an asset.
