Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in GIS, IT, geography or related field and relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years designing and implementing GIS-based solutions in professional settings.
  • Experience with asset/work management, permitting, licensing, or municipal processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead GIS solution design using Esri/Trimble tech to meet client needs.
  • Install, configure, deploy, and support GIS software and apps.
  • Deliver product demos and customer training for GIS solutions.
  • Translate business needs into practical GIS designs and estimates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance.

GIS Application Specialist, Public Works

Esri Canada has an exceptional opportunity for an Application Specialist,to join ourPublic Works Department.

Reporting to the Professional Services Manager, Public Works, this role supports the Public Works group by designing, configuring, and implementing GIS-based solutions using Trimble and Esri technology to meet client business requirements. This role works independently within defined project frameworks, contributes technical expertise across multiple engagements, and collaborates with internal teams and clients to deliver quality outcomes.

This role is fully remote withinCanada.

A day in the life of an Application Specialist at Esri Canada:
  • Manage assigned technical activities for small to medium-client engagements, delivering solutions that align with defined scope, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Lead and contribute to requirements clarification, needs analysis, and functional solution design using off-the-shelf Trimble and Esri technology.
  • Install, configure, deploy, upgrade, and support Trimble and Esri technology, including geodatabase, web, and mobile applications.
  • Deliver product demonstrations and training to prospective and existing customers.
  • Design and implement GIS-based solutions that address client business objectives, including public works, asset management, permitting, licensing, and related business requirements.
  • Provide technical input, validation, and estimates in support of proposals, statements of work, and project planning activities.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues within assigned accountability, escalating issues that fall outside established frameworks.
  • Collaborate effectively with project team members and cross-functional groups to support successful project delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance and informal mentoring to junior resources as required within assigned project work.
What you bring to the team:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science, engineering, geography, GIS, information technology, or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience designing, configuring, and implementing GIS-based solutions in a professional services, consulting, or client-facing technical environment.
  • Experience supporting asset and work management, permitting, licensing, or related municipal business processes.
  • Esri Technical Certification in one or more relevant areas (such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript, or ArcGIS API for Python) is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business needs and translate requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience using third-party reporting packages such as ActiveReports or similar reporting engines.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (SQL), scripting or automation concepts, and technical documentation practices.
  • Proven experience configuring and supporting ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and related Esri technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to moderately complex technical challenges.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to plan and manage multiple assignments concurrently while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within cross-functional project teams.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English / French) is considered an asset.
Compensation & Benefits:

At Esri Canada, we are committed to fair and competitive compensation. This role offers a base salary range of $86,900 to $103,200 annually, determined based on experience, skills, and internal equity.
