Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide direct resident care and medication administration in our Ontario long-term care setting. You will document care, coordinate with the DHW/DOC, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and Extendicare policies.

You will lead and supervise nursing staff and unregulated care providers, participate in care conferences, and contribute to infection prevention, safety, and quality programs.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse in applicable Province/State.
• Experience working with seniors and unregulated care providers.
• Strong written and oral communication, critical thinking, care coordination, time management and customer focus skills.
• Ability to delegate to unregulated care providers and maintain competencies as per College standards.
• Competent in computer use and Microsoft Office applications.
• VPS check within the last 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Complete and ensure residents’ care assessments, service plans and documentation are up to date.
• Assist with scheduling care conferences and participate in them.
• Coordinate residents’ move in and transfers with DHW/DOC.
• Order, safekeep and administer drugs in compliance with regulations and Extendicare policies.
• Provide resident/family education and supervise self-medication assessments.
• Supervise and delegate care and medication administration to Unregulated Care Providers.
• Plan, coordinate and evaluate residents’ care plans with the team and decision makers.
• Coordinate nursing team assignments for timely service delivery.
• Respond to significant changes in residents’ condition and emergencies.
• Act as supervisor in absence of DHW/DOC and Executive Directors; coordinate emergency response.
• Address resident/family concerns and communicate with DHW/DOC/Executive Director as needed.
• Support Infection Prevention, Health & Safety and Quality Programs for the Nursing Department.
• Coordinate scheduling of nursing students from approved education institutions.
• Uphold Extendicare values, ethics, and integrity per Code of Conduct.
