Job Summary :
- The selected GM will report to the company's Maritime Sector, MAPPS, located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The General Manager is responsible for the strategic direction and overall P&L performance of the MAPPS business, a leading global supplier of ITAR-Free controls and simulation solutions for marine, power, space sectors, and naval communications systems. The business has operations across Canada, UK, India, Germany, Australia, and Malaysia.
- The GM will lead a team of senior managers to manage and grow the business, establish overall direction, and maintain relationships with customers, industry partners, and internal teams.
Essential Functions :
- Develop vision, strategy, and tactics for the MAPPS business to drive operational excellence and growth.
- Lead cross-functional, international teams in executing major programs and projects.
- Build and maintain close customer relationships, participate in marketing and sales, and promote the organization's capabilities.
- Collaborate with senior leaders across related sectors to improve project execution.
- Manage the current business portfolio, ensuring technical, schedule, and financial targets are met.
- Lead business development activities, including strategic planning and market capture.
- Translate strategic priorities into operational actions, aligning communication, resources, and processes.
- Promote high standards and continuous improvement through teamwork and empowerment.
Basic Qualifications :
- 15+ years managing a global team in aerospace & defense, with senior management experience leading diverse, system integration-focused teams.
- 3-5 years in defense sector program management, preferably maritime.
- At least 7 years working with business development, engineering, and operations in a global context.
- Strategic thinker with market awareness and opportunity pursuit skills.
- Ability to improve employee engagement and retention.
- Strong leadership skills that motivate and inspire.
- Change management capabilities and organizational adaptability.
- Results-oriented with focus on performance, costs, and profitability.
- Track record of meeting / exceeding targets and managing projects on schedule and budget.
- Knowledge of lean / continuous improvement principles.
- Experience in functional matrix organizations, capture, and proposal management.
- Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering.
- Experience negotiating with international government agencies.
- Canadian and NATO Secret clearance required.
- Working knowledge of French; additional languages are a plus.
