Qualifications

  • 6+ months experience in manufacturing or jobbing shop or 6+ months as a construction laborer.
  • Comfort working in foundry environment with heat, dust and molten metal.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds (23 kg) repeatedly.
  • Willingness to wear PPE (hard hat, face shield, gloves, hot suit) for extended periods.
  • Strong communication to follow directions with pouring/shake-out crews.

Job Description

This role is a hands-on general labor position within a foundry environment, working closely with the shake-out and pouring crew around molten metal and hot castings. You support the pouring crew by learning to operate an overhead crane, assisting with mold cleaning, and helping move hot products safely through the production process. The job is physically demanding, requires strong communication skills, and involves consistent use of personal protective equipment to ensure safe operations in a hot, dusty industrial setting.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the shake-out and pouring crew inside the foundry to support daily production activities.
  • Learn to operate an overhead crane safely to move molds, castings, and other materials as required.
  • Support the cleaning of molds, including placing molds in the shaker and thoroughly cleaning them out.
  • Assist with the movement of hot product and oversee the safe pouring of molten metal into molds under direction.
  • Perform shake-out duties with hot castings, removing castings from molds and preparing them for further processing.
  • Consistently wear and correctly use required PPE, including hard hat, face shield, gloves, hot suit, and other protective gear for specific tasks.
  • Follow all safety procedures and work practices when working around molten metal, hot surfaces, and heavy equipment.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and respond to instructions promptly.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more repeatedly throughout the shift as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, especially in dusty conditions during mold cleaning and shake-out.
  • Adapt to changing tasks and support other foundry operations as needed, contributing to overall team productivity.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 months of experience working in a manufacturing or jobbing shop, or 6+ months as a construction laborer (such as concrete forming).
  • Comfort working in a foundry environment, including exposure to heat, dust, and molten metal.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more multiple times per day in a physically demanding role.
  • Willingness and ability to wear required PPE such as hard hat, face shield, gloves, hot suit, and other protective equipment for extended periods.
  • Strong communication skills to follow directions accurately and work effectively with the pouring and shake-out crew.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and work responsibly around heavy equipment and hot materials.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous overhead crane experience.
  • Experience working in a foundry setting.
  • Background in heavy industry, manufacturing, casting, construction, concrete work, metal stamping, or metal finishing.
  • Familiarity with grinding machines and foundry grinding processes.
  • Comfort working in a dusty, hot industrial environment and performing repetitive physical tasks.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large foundry facility with approximately 50 employees, where work takes place around molten metal, hot castings, and heavy equipment. Temperatures can reach around 30 degrees Celsius in pouring areas, and conditions can be very dusty during mold cleaning and shake-out operations. The position follows a day shift schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. You regularly wear PPE such as a hard hat, face shield, gloves, and a hot suit to protect against heat, dust, and other hazards, and you work on your feet for most of the shift in a physically demanding industrial setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SURREY, BC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
