Gilson Construction Limited is seeking a G1 Gas Fitter – Service Technician to join our Nova Scotia service team. This role focuses on service, troubleshooting, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repair of natural gas and propane systems, not installation.

Responsibilities include responding to service calls, diagnosing issues, communicating with customers, and completing repairs safely and efficiently. On-call rotation and a strong emphasis on safety are part of the job.

Qualifications

• Red Seal certification is an asset.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
• Experience servicing commercial, industrial, or institutional equipment is an asset.
• Knowledge of applicable gas codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.

Gilson Construction Limited is a growing, family-owned Atlantic Canadian company providing mechanical, electrical, construction, service, and maintenance solutions to commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential clients.

We are currently looking for an experienced G1 Gas Fitter – Service Technician to join our growing service team.

The G1 Gas Fitter – Service Technician will be responsible primarily for service, troubleshooting, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repair of natural gas and propane equipment and systems.

This is a service-focused position and is not primarily an installation role. The successful candidate will be comfortable responding to service calls, diagnosing equipment issues, communicating with customers, and completing repairs safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to scheduled and emergency service calls involving gas-fired equipment and systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot natural gas and propane equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and routine servicing of gas-fired equipment.
• Identify mechanical, electrical, controls, and gas-related issues.
• Complete repairs and component replacements as required.
• Perform testing and verification following repairs and maintenance.
• Troubleshoot heating equipment, boilers, furnaces, rooftop units, water heaters, and other gas-fired equipment.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Identify potential equipment failures and recommend corrective action.
• Provide customers with clear explanations of equipment issues and recommended repairs.
• Complete accurate service reports, work orders, and documentation.
• Maintain service vehicle, tools, equipment, and inventory.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, manufacturer requirements, and Gilson safety standards.
• Work closely with Service Managers, Project Managers, Technicians, and other trades.
• Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach on every service call.
• Participate in an on-call rotation as required.
• Other service-related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Red Seal certification is considered an asset.
• Previous experience working as a gas service technician is strongly preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
• Experience servicing commercial, industrial, or institutional equipment is an asset.
• Strong understanding of gas-fired heating and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to diagnose problems efficiently and determine appropriate repair solutions.
• Knowledge of applicable gas codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills are an asset.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.
• Professional appearance and attitude.
• Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Your day may include:

Diagnosing gas equipment and determining the cause of failures.

Replacing components, correcting equipment issues, and restoring systems to proper operation.

Performing scheduled maintenance to help prevent equipment failures and extend equipment life.

Responding to customer service requirements throughout Nova Scotia.

Communicating directly with customers and providing professional recommendations and solutions.
