Job summary

MOSAIC is seeking a client-centered FSL Instructor in Vancouver to prepare curriculum materials and deliver language instruction under MOSAIC guidelines for day and/or evening classes.

The role emphasizes using NCLC planning, addressing diverse immigrant and refugee students, and incorporating community resources to foster real-world language use. Strong assessment and reporting skills are required.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering French as a Second Language instruction.
• Ability to design and implement curriculum aligned with MOSAIC guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare curriculum materials and deliver MOSAIC curriculum-based instruction for day and/or evening classes.

POSITION FUNCTION:

The FSL Instructor prepares curriculum materials and delivers instruction under the MOSAIC curriculum guidelines for students for day and/or evening classes.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The French as a Second Language Instructor prepares curriculum materials and delivers instruction under the MOSAIC curriculum guidelines for students for day and/or evening classes.
• Use the NCLC (Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens) to inform planning
• Identify achievable learning objectives relevant to students
• Apply the principles of communicative and task-based lesson-planning
• Incorporate content and adapt methodology to accommodate diverse needs of immigrant and refugee students by seeking knowledge of learners’ lives and backgrounds, and responding to students’ needs and goals
• Use current and appropriate media technology as a tool to support students’ language learning and/or real-life skills (e.g., computer literacy, writing an email, reading a website)
• Facilitate language learner involvement in the community by incorporating local community resources and materials in lessons, and by creating assignments that encourage learners to interact in real-world situations
• Identify when a learner needs assistance and respond appropriately by making adaptation within the curriculum and the classroom. Refer students to appropriate internal or external resources in response to students’ needs
• Use a variety of assessment tools and techniques appropriate for ongoing formative assessment in relation to the NCLC descriptors for the four skill areas.
• Maintain student attendance records, and forward a monthly report to the appropriate staff person
