Big Country Equipment Repair LTD is seeking a Working Foreman at our Artemis Gold Mine site. You will lead the mechanical team with a hands-on approach, ensuring repairs, maintenance, and daily operations meet safety and quality standards.

The role requires a licensed journeyman mechanic with mining experience and a minimum of three years in supervision. Camp accommodations are provided, with flights covered from major Canadian airports.

Responsibilities

• Oversee on-site quality and quantity of work by BCER employees, ensuring safety and standards.
• Coordinate travel changes for Artemis rotation with Workforce Logistics Coordinator.
• Lead the mechanical team through hands-on repairs and maintenance.
• Perform maintenance on Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi equipment and related systems.
• Communicate daily with staff to clarify scopes, procedures and expectations.

Job Summary

As a Working Foreman at our dynamic customer mine sites, you will lead and inspire the mechanical team through a hands‑on approach that combines technical expertise with strong leadership. In this critical role, you will oversee daily operations, ensuring mechanical activities are performed efficiently, safely, and to the highest company standards. Your responsibilities will include conducting mechanical repairs, coordinating team efforts, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Success in this position will rely on your ability to provide clear direction, solve problems proactively, and set a strong example of professionalism and dedication.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Oversee the quality and quantity of work performed by BCER employees on‑site, including technicians and welders, ensuring adherence to safety, efficiency, and quality standards.
• Handle shift change emails regarding travel to and from Artemis for all Big Country employees, collaborating with the Workforce Logistics Coordinator to ensure travel arrangements are accurate and completed promptly.
• Lead and coordinate the mechanical team’s daily operations, setting a strong example through hands‑on mechanical repairs and maintenance.
• Conduct maintenance and repairs on a wide range of mining equipment, including Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Hitachi heavy machinery.
• Communicate daily with Big Country employees to ensure they clearly understand their assigned job scopes, procedures, and expectations.
• Document competency evaluations for employees and determine "Fit for Duty" for the workforce on‑site.
• Ensure all BCER policies and standards, such as Health and Safety and Drug and Alcohol policies, are met and upheld by all employees.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for BCER with the customer’s front‑line supervisors, ensuring the work performed meets or exceeds expectations.
• Mentor and guide technicians and welders positively and constructively to help them excel in their roles.
• Compile and complete shift crossovers at the end of each rotation, providing detailed email summaries to the assigned cross shift, superintendent, and operations manager, and follow up as necessary to ensure clarity.
• Verify that daily truck and crane inspections are completed, and that technicians and welders maintain vehicles, tooling, and equipment in a clean and operational condition.
• Ensure technicians and welders have the necessary PPE, tools, and procedures to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
• Monitor and enforce proper completion and submission of site‑specific hazard assessments, and review and sign off as required.
• Ensure all employees accurately complete and submit timecards daily.
• Communicate regularly with the customer to address any concerns and provide updates on work progress.
• Recommend disciplinary actions as necessary to address workforce issues.
• Ensure daily site access for BCER employees and address any access‑related issues as they arise.
• Operate professionally within the scope of responsibility, refraining from making warranty decisions which require approval from a supervisor or designated authority.

Requirements

• Licensed journeyman mechanic with extensive experience in heavy machinery or mining equipment.
• Mining experience is required for this role, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
• Red Seal needed.
• Completion of a Mine Supervisor Course is mandatory.
• Completion of the WCB Supervising for Safety Online Course is required.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities in a supervisory or foreman role, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable working in a camp setting and adaptable to various site conditions across British Columbia.
• Prepared to work hands‑on with tools and lead the team from the front.
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

All Successful Candidates Must

• Be proficient in English, verbal and written.
• Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Pass a Criminal Record check.
• Must be able to work in Canada legally.
• Provide a clean 5‑year driver's abstract.
• Pass an 8‑panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
• Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
• Not seeking sub‑contractor roles (we are not offering sub‑contractor opportunities at this time).
