Job summary

Big Country Equipment is hiring an experienced licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic to perform shop repairs, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy mining equipment. This rotational 14-day-on/14-day-off schedule involves troubleshooting and repairing CAT mining equipment with company-provided tools.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment, field-service experience, and a valid provincial trade certification (Red Seal is a plus).

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years diagnosing and repairing heavy or off-road equipment.
• Preference for recent field-service experience, ideally on-site from a service truck.
• Provincial trade cert is preferred; Red Seal is an asset but not required if local cert exists.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy mining equipment.
• Perform shop repairs on Caterpillar mining equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission and drivetrain issues.
• Utilize diagnostic software and testing equipment to identify repairs and ensure proper operation.
• Prepare service reports and test repaired equipment for safety and reliability.

Job description

Base Rate: $ 62.50/hr.
OT: After 8 hours daily, paid at $93.75/hr.
Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days
Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr.
Accommodations: Company housing is provided at no additional cost
Flights Paid: Yes, fly into the location from any major airport in Canada
Tools Provided: Tools will be provided
Travel Allowance: A travel allowance will be provided upon arrival and upon departure from your 14-day shift rotation.
Meal Allowance: $60 per day

Big Country Equipment is hiring an experienced licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic (Equipment Technician) to perform shop repairs, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy mining equipment. This is a rotational opportunity working a 14-days-on, 14-days-off schedule. The successful technician will troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment using company-provided tools while supporting customer operations safely and professionally. Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics and Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered with strong, relevant experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy mining equipment.
• Perform shop repairs on primarily Caterpillar (CAT) mining equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain issues.
• Repair or replace transmission components, differential gears, driveshafts, and related drivetrain components.
• Use computerized diagnostic software, testing equipment, and technical information to identify required repairs.
• Complete scheduled maintenance, preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and unscheduled work orders.
• Prepare accurate and detailed service reports.
• Test repaired equipment to confirm safe and proper operation.
• Recommend required repairs and opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
• Follow all company safety procedures, customer-site requirements, and regulatory standards.
• Maintain all required trade certifications, licenses, and site training.
• Report fit for duty and prepared to complete assigned field-service work safely.
• All related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Three or more years of recent experience diagnosing and repairing heavy or off-road equipment.
• Recent field-service experience is preferred, ideally working independently from a service truck.
• A valid provincial trade certification as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician is preferred.
• Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics or Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered when they have relevant heavy-equipment repair experience.
• Red Seal certification is an asset but not required for candidates with a valid provincial trade certification recognized in the province where they will work.
• Experience repairing mining equipment is preferred; however, strong experience with construction, forestry, agricultural, or other off-road equipment may also be considered.
• Experience with Caterpillar, is preferred, but will consider other relevant brand experience such as Komatsu, Hitachi, or John Deere.
• Experience repairing surface drills, electric shovels, or hydraulic shovels is an asset.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain systems.
• Experience using computerized diagnostic software and testing equipment.

All Successful Candidates Must

• Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
• Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
• Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
• Pass a Criminal Record check.
• Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
• Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
• Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
• Not seeking subcontractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).
