Job summary

Big Country Equipment Repair seeks an experienced Automotive Service Technician for field service on a mine-site fleet. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain light-duty vehicles using company-provided tools, with a 14-day on/14-day off rotation.

Requirements include 3+ years of diagnostic experience, preferred Red Seal certification, and ability to work safely on active mine sites. Training and references are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience diagnosing and repairing light-duty fleet vehicles in mining, industrial, or construction environments.
  • A valid provincial trade certification as an Automotive Service Technician is preferred.
  • Red Seal Automotive Service Technician certification is preferred.

Big Country Equipment is hiring an experienced, licensed Automotive Service Technician to perform field service, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of vehicles and machines. This is a rotational field-service opportunity working on a 14-day-on, 14-day-off schedule. The successful technician will primarily troubleshoot and repair a fleet of pickup trucks using company-provided tools while supporting customer operations safely and professionally.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair light-duty vehicles operating on mine sites
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on pickup trucks, service vehicles, and other light-duty fleet vehicles used in mining operations.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, steering, suspension, brake, drivetrain, and other vehicle system issues.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and unscheduled repairs. Use computerized diagnostic software, scan tools, testing equipment, and technical information to identify required repairs.
  • Repair and replace engines, transmissions, drivetrain components, steering and suspension components, braking systems, and electrical components as required.
  • Perform inspections and identify vehicle defects or components requiring repair or replacement.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed service reports and maintenance documentation.
  • Test repaired vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation.
  • Recommend required repairs and opportunities to improve vehicle reliability.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, customer-site requirements, and mine-site safety standards.
  • Maintain all required trade certifications, licenses, and site training.
  • Report to work fit for duty and prepared to complete assigned work safely.
  • All related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Three or more years of recent experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing automotive or light-duty vehicles.
  • Experience maintaining light-duty fleet vehicles in mining, industrial, construction, or other demanding work environments is preferred.
  • A valid provincial trade certification as an Automotive Service Technician is preferred.
  • Red Seal Automotive Service Technician certification is preferred.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing pickup trucks and other light-duty fleet vehicles is preferred.
  • Experience with brands such as Ford, GMC, and Chevy is preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, steering, engines, suspension, braking, transmission, and drivetrain systems.
  • Experience using computerized diagnostic software, scan tools, and testing equipment.
  • Commitment to working safely in an active mine-site environment.

All Successful Candidates Must:

  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
  • Pass a Criminal Record check.
  • Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
  • Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
  • Not seeking subcontractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).
  • Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
