Job summary

Canada Cartage in Winnipeg seeks an experienced Fleet Shop Manager to lead our maintenance team and keep the fleet operating safely and efficiently. You will oversee the shop, coach technicians, manage work orders, and drive cost-effective maintenance practices.

The role requires hands-on leadership in a fast-paced environment, strong organizational skills, and experience with fleet operations. College diploma or equivalent education is preferred and beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Shop Supervisor, Shop Foreman, Fleet Maintenance Lead, or similar leadership role.
  • Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing a team in a fast-paced maintenance environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands.
  • Experience with fleet or vehicle maintenance operations.
  • Mechanic/technician experience is an asset.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • College diploma or equivalent education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop Technicians and the Shop Service Writer through scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Oversee daily shop operations to ensure repairs and maintenance are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Plan and prioritize repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance.
  • Manage work orders, maintenance records, and repair history using fleet maintenance software.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Manage relationships with parts suppliers, vendors, and warranty providers.

Canada Cartage is looking for an experienced Fleet Shop Manager to lead our shop operations and maintenance team. This is an opportunity for a hands‑on leader who enjoys developing people, improving processes, and keeping a busy fleet operating safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Do

As the Fleet Maintenance Manager, you’ll oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the maintenance shop while leading and developing a team of Technicians and a Shop Service Writer.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead, coach, and develop Technicians and the Shop Service Writer through scheduling, training, and performance management.
  • Oversee daily shop operations to ensure repairs and maintenance are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
  • Plan and prioritize repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance.
  • Manage work orders, maintenance records, and repair history using fleet maintenance software.
  • Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Manage relationships with parts suppliers, vendors, and warranty providers.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable transportation regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs to maximize fleet uptime and reduce breakdowns.
  • Monitor maintenance costs and performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Manage the shop budget and implement cost‑control measures.
