Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking a Maintenance Apprentice in Canada to receive on-the-job training for inspections, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs to company vehicles in compliance with DOT regulations and company standards.

You will learn to perform routine maintenance, assist mechanics, conduct safety inspections, document parts usage, and maintain an organized shop under supervision. This role emphasizes safety, accuracy, and teamwork in a dynamic fleet environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles.
• Ability to follow schedules, instructions, manuals and maintenance guidelines.
• Currently registered as a Level 3 apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario (310T).
• Strong work ethic with integrity and trust.
• Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work well in a team or independently.
• Attention to detail, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports and documents.
• Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform limited repairs and preventive maintenance (oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups, filter replacements, tire rotations).
• Complete paperwork associated with repairs, parts usage, and repair times.
• Conduct vehicle safety inspections and report deterioration.
• Assist mechanics with repairs and projects as assigned.
• Tire inspections, replacement and maintenance.
• Fuel and wash company vehicles.
• Operate tools and equipment per safety procedures.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area per OSHA standards.
• Assist with inventory and reporting in M5 system.
