Job summary

GFL Environmental is seeking a Maintenance Apprentice in Ontario to learn inspections, prevention maintenance, and basic repairs for the fleet, under DOT standards and company policies.

You will gain hands-on training while supporting mechanics, performing routine servicing, and helping maintain equipment safety and cleanliness in the shop environment.

Qualifications

• Currently registered as a Level 3 apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario (310T).
• Knowledge of tools required to perform vehicle repairs and maintenance.
• Ability to follow schedules, technical manuals, and maintenance guidelines.
• Demonstrates integrity, reliability, and strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

• Perform limited repairs and preventive maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups, filter replacements, tire rotations, minor adjustments.
• Complete required paperwork for repairs, document parts usage, and record repair times.
• Conduct vehicle safety inspections; identify and report deterioration for replacement or repair.
• Assist mechanics with repairs and projects as assigned by supervisor.
• Tire inspections, removal and replacements; fuel and wash company vehicles.
• Operate tools and equipment according to safety procedures and company standards.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area per OSHA standards.
• Assist in maintaining inventory and reporting in M5 program.

Job description

The Maintenance Apprentice will receive on-the-job training on performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and will assist with minor repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of company vehicles. This individual will learn how to properly maintain commercial motor vehicles according to DOT regulations and Company standards

Key Responsibilities

• Perform limited repairs and preventive maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups, filter replacements, tire rotations, minor adjustments, etc.
• Complete required paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times
• Conduct vehicle safety inspections; identify, record, and report equipment deterioration for replacement or repair
• Assist mechanics with repairs and projects as assigned by supervisor
• Tire inspections, removal and replacements
• Fuel and wash Company vehicles
• Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures, and follow established techniques to perform Key Responsibilities
• Ensure shop equipment and tools are in safe operating condition
• Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA Standards
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned
• Assist in maintaining inventory and reporting in M5 program

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles
• Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of the company fleet
• Currently registered as a Level 3 apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario in the Truck & Coach (310T) trade.
• Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity and trust
• Ability to prioritize workload and meet time sensitive deadlines
• Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor
