Position

The person occupying this strategic position in the organization is an expert in finance. Responsibilities include overseeing accounting, producing financial statements, analyzing financial performance, managing cash flow and implementing internal controls. He or she ensures that all financial activities comply with current accounting standards and regulations.

Main responsibilities

Team leadership

  • Supervise and manage the accounting and payroll teams, provide training and skills development, assign tasks and monitor work quality.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Manage day-to-day activities as part of the full accounting cycle.
  • Analyze financial performance and prepare reports and variance analyses.

Budget preparation

  • Participate in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, analyze variances and propose corrective measures.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget.

Internal control

  • Implement and maintain an effective internal control system to prevent and detect errors and fraud and to ensure the security of company assets.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors.

Payroll management

  • Monitor payroll processes and legislative obligations in Quebec and Ontario.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting and financial processes, implement solutions to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

Business partner to management

  • Provide financial advice and analysis to management to facilitate strategic decision-making.

Governance

  • Manage federal and provincial government reports and tax returns.
  • Apply for external funding, including internship grants, CDAE tax credit, and other relevant programs.
  • Monitor changes in legal compliance and financial and tax regulations, respect industry best practices and keep abreast of market trends.
  • Participate in commercial insurance renewals, including negotiations, and maintain a good relationship with the broker.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in financial management
  • Experience in the IT field or in a professional services firm
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  • Knowledge of business intelligence software

Technical skills

  • Mastery of accounting standards, accounting software and financial analysis tools
  • Proficiency in Netsuite financial management system an asset
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Google Workspace
  • Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate leadership, teamwork and effective communication skills
  • Analytical and synthesizing skills
  • Demonstrate rigor and integrity
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Bilingualism (English and French)
