Job description

We are hiring at Aspire Software for a dynamic and experienced Portfolio Financial Controller to join our growing team in North America!

The Portfolio Financial Controller will report to the Portfolio Head of Finance. This individual will coordinate and manage period-end close, budgeting and forecasting, statutory compliance and reporting, integrations of new businesses, and ensure accurate financial reporting and analysis for a portfolio of acquired companies. They will also lead projects impacting their accounting, provide guidance on complex accounting issues, and coordinate with their Finance team and the Managing Directors of subsidiary companies.

Work location: This role is remote, based anywhere in Canada.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Monitoring and analyzing performance strategies, identifying opportunities, and implementing action plans to meet financial targets.
  2. Driving financial planning through KPI analysis, preparing business reviews, and managing forecasts.
  3. Monitoring financial health, developing profitability strategies, and maintaining interactions with corporate finance.
  4. Participating in sale or acquisition processes, applying finance best practices, and owning financial operations for acquired companies.

Financial Reporting:

  1. Overseeing accounting tasks, including tax and compliance, and owning the monthly close process.
  2. Preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with policies, and supporting audits.

Team Leadership and Development:

  1. Leading and supervising finance personnel, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  2. Training and coaching team members.

Financial Systems:

  1. Supporting ERP rollout activities, identifying automation opportunities, and improving financial processes.

Integration Support:

  1. Developing and executing financial integration plans for acquisitions, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
  2. Managing reporting cadence, preparing purchase price allocations, and monitoring liabilities.

Candidate profile:

  • Qualified accountant (ACCA, CPA preferred), with a bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
  • 5+ years in a similar role, including 2+ years managing a team.
  • Strong understanding of financial processes, internal controls, and business integration.
  • Experience with Oracle NetSuite ERP or similar systems is an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and Excel skills.
  • Fluent in English and legally authorized to work in Canada.
