Position Summary

The Controller for Urban Remedy, reporting directly to the CFO, will be a key member of the Finance Team, responsible for establishing and maintaining routines and controls that verify the integrity of all financial systems, processes, and data, thereby enhancing the company's decision-making capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both public and private accounting, with expertise in FP&A, Cost and Inventory Accounting, and Plant/Manufacturing Accounting, preferably within a CPG environment. They should be data and technology-centric, comfortable working in a fast-paced, small company environment, and eager to take on a hands-on leadership role to support growth and value creation.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Manage all aspects of the general ledger, including revenue, expenses, inventory, payroll, fixed assets, and accounts receivable/payable.
  2. Oversee the preparation of GAAP financial statements and audit schedules.
  3. Manage weekly cash flow and vendor payments.
  4. Prepare financial reports for management and investors.
  5. Handle tax reporting and filings, including income and sales taxes.
  6. Manage the company's insurance policies.
  7. Monitor new accounting standards and assess their impact.
  8. Maintain organized financial data and documentation.
  9. Analyze operational and financial performance metrics and provide insights.
  10. Ensure adherence to company policies and develop internal controls.
  11. Safeguard assets by maintaining accurate and timely records.
  12. Create a motivating work environment aligned with company culture.
  13. Develop and monitor budgets and forecasts.
  14. Lead, train, and develop department staff, fostering a high-performance team.
  15. Develop relevant job roles, ensure staffing aligns with strategic objectives.
  16. Perform additional responsibilities as needed and ensure team awareness of company goals.
Qualifications
Position-Specific Skills
  • 5-8 years of experience in public and private accounting, with large firm or bank experience preferred.
  • Experience in omni-channel CPG environments.
  • Knowledge of multi-location cost accounting, inventory management, and manufacturing processes, with food manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, reporting, audit, tax, and lease accounting.
  • Payroll management experience and regulatory knowledge.
  • Proficiency in Excel, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Education/Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

This role is primarily remote but requires periodic in-person meetings and supervision in the San Francisco Bay Area. It involves standard office work with extended computer use.
