Job summary

Our client, a well-established construction firm in Southwestern Ontario, is seeking a Financial Controller to own accounting and financial operations across the company. You will report to the General Manager and lead the finance function with hands-on involvement from monthly close to loan draws.

This onsite role offers exposure to ownership and senior leadership, the chance to shape financial processes, and a discretionary annual bonus along with benefits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of combined accounting and finance experience in construction.
• Strong full-cycle accounting knowledge, including budgeting and cost control.
• Experience with Sage accounting software is preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Confidence interacting with management, ownership, external partners, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day accounting operations, including AR, AP, GL, cost accounting, government remittances, inventory accounting, banking, revenue recognition, and payroll.
• Lead the annual budget process, financial forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Prepare and publish monthly financial statements.
• Provide financial analysis and strategic counsel on land and lot purchase opportunities.
• Build pro-forma statements and cash flow analyses to support new business decisions.
• Manage daily cash requirements and banking across multiple companies and project accounts.
• Prepare monthly and long-term cash flow forecasts.
• Develop detailed construction project budgets and cash flows.
• Coordinate monthly construction loan funding with lawyers and lenders.
• Liaise with cost consultants and prepare documentation supporting construction loan draws.
• Develop, document, and communicate internal control policies and accounting procedures.
• Manage government reporting requirements and tax filings.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.
• Research technical accounting issues to maintain compliance.
• Mentor and oversee one direct report.
