Newlands Group in Mississauga is hiring an Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting for a growing construction management organization. You will ensure accurate financial reporting, implement robust internal controls, and support project teams with timely financial information.

The role requires a CPA or active pursuit, a Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance, and 5+ years in accounting with leadership experience in construction.

Qualifications

• CPA designation (or actively pursuing) preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Experience in construction, real estate development, or project-based industries required.
• Strong understanding of construction accounting principles (job costing, WIP, progress billing, holdbacks).
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with construction ERP software is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Oversee daily accounting functions including AP/AR, GL, and month-end close.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements per ASPE.
• Lead month-end and year-end close, reconciliations and journal entries.
• Manage cash flow, banking, and working capital.
• Monitor project financial performance including job costing and WIP.
• Review subcontractor invoices, draws, progress billings, and holdbacks.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for corporate and projects.
• Coordinate annual audits with external accountants and lenders.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies and internal controls.
• Supervise accounting staff and foster high-performing team.
• Partner with operations to provide financial insights for decisions.

Accounting Manager

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for a growing construction management organization. This individual will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting project teams with timely financial information. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, leadership experience, and a solid understanding of the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end close.
• Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE.
• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and journal entries.
• Manage cash flow, banking activities, and working capital requirements.
• Monitor project financial performance, including job costing, work-in-progress (WIP), percentage of completion, and project profitability.
• Review subcontractor invoices, construction draws, progress billings, and holdback calculations.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for both corporate and project operations.
• Ensure compliance with HST, payroll remittances, WSIB reporting, and other regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate annual audits and liaise with external accountants, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
• Partner with operations and project management teams to provide financial insights that support business decisions.

Qualifications:

• CPA designation (or actively pursuing) is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Previous experience within the construction, real estate development, or project-based industry is required.
• Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP schedules, progress billing, and holdbacks.
• Experience preparing financial statements and supporting year-end audits.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with construction accounting software such as Jonas, Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore Financials, or similar ERP systems is considered an asset.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across finance and operations.
