Job summary

The Mint is hiring a Financial Analyst, Project and Cost Accounting to support capital and operating projects at Ottawa/Winnipeg operations. You will perform cost accounting, variance analyses and journal entries within our ERP environment, while driving IFRS-compliant reporting.

You will partner with cost, finance and operations teams to improve processes, implement AI-enabled cost management, and ensure accurate inventory costing. Bilingual English/French proficiency is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration.
• Minimum of 5 years of related business experience, manufacturing experience preferred.

Job description

The Mint is hiring a Financial Analyst who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Complex Accounting, the Financial Analyst, Project and Cost Accounting will assist their leader and peers to effectively account for all capital and operating projects as well as support all cost accounting related functions for the Winnipeg and Ottawa Plant Operations and Ottawa Refinery Operations, including the maintenance and accurate reporting in the financial control system.

The incumbent will also support the Program Manager, Project and Cost Accounting objectives by driving operational efficiencies through process and system improvements that will ensure proper processes are in place to account for the capital and operating projects and with the inventory costing.

The Financial Analyst, Project and Cost Accounting will be an integral part of a team of finance professionals that will work well with other stakeholders at all levels to influence changes as required to deliver best practice accounting support. Your focus on creating your own measures of excellence, your organizational skills and your analytical thinking capabilities will ensure a successful outcome for the Royal Canadian Mint’s Operation and Finance teams.

Your Responsibilities:

• Prepare the monthly and quarterly transactions in relation to capital and operating projects as well as cost accounting functions, including timely and accurate variance analysis, preparation of manual journal entries, the completion of balance sheet reconciliations and the maintenance of standard costs in the ERP, and ad hoc analysis as it relates to projects and cost accounting.
• Prepare project contract summaries to ensure correct accounting treatment under IFRS and prepare the variance analysis for costing that will lead impactful changes for the plants.
• Participate in all facets of the business in developing business practices leveraging artificial intelligence tools available for project cost management and capitalization as well as cost accounting best practices and related accounting policies and procedures that will meet the desired operational and compliance outcomes in accordance with IFRS.
• Support the creation of projects in the ERP and work closely with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate reporting of project costs. For costing, participate and support the variance analysis framework supporting the operations on a continuous improvement path and maintain/create artificial intelligence tools to streamline processes.
• Maintain the new product introduction costing as well as the annual cost roll up and support development of artificial intelligence tools to enhance those processes.
• Support internal and external auditors on projects and cost accounting matters.
• Action other responsibilities as assigned, including projects or initiatives to ensure successful delivery on Finance objectives.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring on-site presence at our Ottawa/ Winnipeg location three to five days per week, depending on meeting requirements and other activities.

Education & Designation:

Experience:

• Experience with project and cost accounting would be considered an asset.
