Job summary

Sofina Foods Inc. is seeking a Financial Accountant to analyze the financial statements for two plants (Mississauga and North York) and the consolidated results. You will ensure accuracy of the close process, maintain internal controls, and provide variance reporting and actionable insights to drive business decisions.

The role involves preparing key operational/financial reports, standard costing, and intercompany reconciliations. Strong Excel skills and CPA/CMA/CGA/CA designation are preferred.

Qualifications

• CPA/CMA/CGA/CA designation preferred.
• 2–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (food industry is a plus).
• Diploma or degree in accounting/finance with account reconciliation experience.
• Proficiency in MS Office with advanced Excel skills.
• AS400 knowledge is an asset.

Job Description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Accountant is accountable for analysis of the Financial Statements for two plants and the consolidated results - Mississauga and North York.
The individual will ensure the accuracy of the financial statement close process, performance of internal controls (including account reconciliations), analysis and timely, insightful, action-oriented variance reporting and overall leading-edge financial support.

Key Accountabilities:

• Provide analysis and commentary to financial results (target audience includes Corporate Finance and Plant Operations);


• Preparation and analysis of key operational and financial reports as part of monthly packages;


• Standard cost and variance analysis, yield reporting and understanding of bill of materials;


• Ownership of the item master, standard costing processes and related analysis providing insight into financial impacts and recommendations for better business decision making;


• Utilities analysis and reporting;


• Identify opportunities to improve/expand plant reporting to enable better business decisions;


• Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations including, but not limited to bank reconciliations, intercompany invoicing and reconciliation, inventory, capital assets, trade spend and other liability accruals;


• Prepare ad hoc analysis as required by sales, plant manager, business performance and other departments;


• Provide recommendations for streamlining existing processes and system to help generate synergies between locations.

Requirements:

• Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, CA) is preferable;


• 2-3 years of experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment (food industry is an asset);


• A diploma/degree in accounting or finance and related account reconciliation experience is required;


• Proficiency in MS Office applications and advanced knowledge with Excel is required;


• AS400 knowledge is an asset.

Hiring Range: CAD$64,393 - $92,082

Bonus: This position is eligible for a bonus up to 8% of base salary subject to the plan terms and conditions.

Please note that the expected hiring range provided is derived from a group of like roles within Sofina. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, skillset of the candidate and internal equity.
