Job summary

About the job

We are excited to announce a joint opportunity for two Advisor positions supporting two closely collaborating teams. These roles share a similar scope and a set of responsibilities, and candidates can be considered for both openings through a single recruitment process.

  • Portfolio Reporting and Analytics

The Portfolio Reporting & Analytics team provides analytics, insights, and reporting services across multiple stakeholder groups, with a focus on capital projects delivered by the Project Delivery team. The team supports evidence based decision making by using visualization and data transformation tools, and statistical analysis to develop portfolio, project, and contract related analytics, and by maintaining clear, accurate, and timely reporting that supports operational and strategic priorities.

Portfolio Services delivers a range of portfolio and project performance reporting services, including analytics, facilitation, coordination and presentation support for Project Delivery managed projects and initiatives. The team leads major functions such as Project Releases, PD Scorecard management, Quarterly Board paper preparation, facilitated Deep Dive sessions, while also providing other portfolio-level services that enable consistent oversight and performance tracking across the project portfolio.

What you’ll do
  • Analyze, summarize, and communicate insights and associated reports based on portfolio/projects information to project teams, senior leaders, and other audiences as needed.
  • Refresh, refine, and publish several monthly and quarterly summary reports of ongoing results and prepare other ad-hoc analysis in a timely manner.
  • Develop new reports such that they can be prepared efficiently in a repeatable manner.
  • Extract project performance data from multiple source systems including SAP-Business Warehouse – this includes key project attributes around costs, milestones, change items, deficiencies, labour resources, risks and related information.
  • Perform data cleaning, transformation and analysis using tools (e.g., MS Excel, MS Power Query and Analysis for Office) and translate these into visualized and actionable information.
  • Support and/or execute the facilitation of Portfolio Management processes via working closely with project managers, PM Team Leads, and senior leaders in PD and other KBUs.
  • Apply analytical skills and judgment to analyze and recommend solutions to improve processes and close Portfolio reporting gaps to meet the needs of all project participants.
  • Design, develop and document operational processes at portfolio level.
  • Work with partners in Technology Business Unit to ensure backend system architecture for Portfolio Management reports are delivered and sustained allowing for on-demand accessibility of data.
  • Develop relationships with other subject matter experts within and outside of BC Hydro who are involved in performance reporting and advanced data analytics.
  • Support senior team members/Team Leads in other duties as required.
  • Resolve moderately complex problems independently under areas of authority, occasionally seeking input from others on more complex issues.
What you bring
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience, with demonstrated capabilities in reporting and data analytics
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Economics, Business or other relevant disciplines.
  • Proven experience in advanced MS Excel functionalities and techniques
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to summarize data to visually tell a story.
  • Strong coordination and collaboration skills with the ability to work with various stakeholders among cross-functional teams to facilitate sessions and processes.

What else you should know

The following skills/capabilities would be considered assets:

  • Experience accessing SAP Business Warehouse (SAP-BW) using Analysis for Office (AfO)
  • Experience using advanced analytics tools like Tableau, Power BI, SAS or MS Power Query
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to use A.I. tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to enhance analysis, automate workflows, generate insights, and support data driven decision making
  • Understanding of project management principles and lifecycle. Understanding of SAP Project Builder, Primavera P6 and basic project scheduling.
  • Understanding of basic statistics and relational databases.
  • A Professional designation in Engineering, Business, or related.
