Job summary

Coulson Aviation on Vancouver Island is seeking a detail-oriented Financial Accounting Clerk to join the Finance team in Port Alberni, BC. This full-time, onsite role supports accurate financial reporting across Coulson Group’s multi-entity organization.

Salary range CA$60,000 to CA$70,000 annually with company-paid health and dental benefits, a 5% employer-matching pension plan, and CPA development opportunities. Join a collaborative team supporting aerial firefighting operations worldwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, college diploma, or certificate in accounting/finance/business administration preferred.
• Post-secondary coursework in accounting/finance/economics completed or in progress.
• Willingness to pursue CPA program or currently enrolled.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process customer invoices across entities.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on balances.
• Apply cash receipts and reconcile accounts.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
• Maintain and reconcile bank and general ledger accounts.
• Complete corporate credit card reconciliations in Concur.
• Prepare trial balances and cost-centre reports.
• Identify trends and variances in financial data.
• Support internal controls for cost and inventory management.
• Assist audits with documentation and schedules.
• Maintain organized accounting records.

As our company continues to grow, we are looking for a detail-oriented Financial Accounting Clerk to join our Finance team in Port Alberni, BC. This full-time, onsite position offers the opportunity to develop broad accounting experience while supporting accurate financial reporting across Coulson Group’s multi-entity organization.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Prepare and process customer invoices, ensuring accurate and timely billing across assigned entities.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging, follow up on outstanding balances, and escalate overdue accounts when required.
• Apply cash receipts, reconcile customer accounts, and investigate billing or payment discrepancies.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments to support complete and accurate financial records.
• Maintain and reconcile bank, general ledger, cost, inventory, and other assigned accounts.
• Complete corporate credit card reconciliations and postings through Concur.
• Prepare trial balances, cost-centre reports, and other periodic financial reports.
• Review financial information to identify trends, variances, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Support the development and maintenance of effective internal controls relating to cost and inventory management.
• Assist with internal and external audits by preparing supporting documentation, schedules, and reports.
• Maintain accurate and organized accounting records.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

• A bachelor’s degree, college diploma, or certificate in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or a related field is preferred.
• Completed post-secondary coursework in accounting, finance, or economics.
• Current enrolment in, eligibility for, or a willingness to pursue the CPA program.
• An understanding of fundamental accounting principles and financial-recordkeeping practices.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial information.
• A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet recurring deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to investigate discrepancies, identify problems, and follow through to resolution.
• The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
